Next Stop: Tagaytay

Travel Log August 21, 2009 8:19 am

By the time we got back to the Ilagan house to bid our goodbyes to Beth and her mom, it was already a little past lunch time. I know. Less than two hours ago, we were seated in their comedor and stuffing ourselves with the heavenly suman and tsokolate we have been graciously served.

But my body has a sleep clock, an eat clock and a work clock. And my eat clock’s alarm went off at exactly 11:30 a.m. as always. Although I had pressed the snooze button furiously every ten minutes, my mind was pretty insistent that I was already hungry.

We started our trip back to Tagaytay at around 12:45 p.m. and when we passed the stables adjacent to the  Taal Vista Hotel where we will be staying, I just had to quip “I could a eat a horse!”.

We weren’t sure where to eat so we settled for the familiarity of Gerry’s Grill which was  located along the rim overlooking Taal Lake. It was payday weekend and Gerry’s Grill was one of those places in Tagaytay where this was really apparent. The restaurant was so packed you can hardly hear over the din of tableware clanging and people chattering. These, plus the insidiously hot climate  that pervaded throughout Tagaytay, shattered all my old notions that this was the place to be when you wanted some cool, quiet time. It seemed that the maddening crowd was also out in Tagaytay this weekend.
